A suggestion

Postby johnspenn » Tue Mar 11, 2014 6:56 pm

As part of the sign-up procedure for this forum, require those signing up to declare their position i.e. YEC/OEC Christian, Atheist, Buddhist, etc. Make it a mandatory fillable field. That way participants don't have to guess who is who.

Go back and make those already signed up do the same or forfeit their membership.

It is a good suggestion we know who is who, but on the other hand some would rather hold those views privately or be undecided or in the course of their experiences in the discussion forum change their mind!

If you start a discussion and say, "only those who've stated their position in the interest section of their profile" can participate, that would be a way to screen people out. Or you can say in a discussion, "please state your viewpoint regarding X before you say anything else."

Me personally, especially since I reach out to students who are undecided, don't want them to be inhibited from participating because they have to declare their beliefs.

One reason I like author moderation is every person has their view about the proper way to conduct a discussion. The forum rules now allow for people to run the discussions the way they like (provided of course they have willing participants).

Why not put this forum in the uncommon descent headings area? It might bring more attention as who can find it and i could go into straight from uncommon descent at whim?

Internet Trolls Just Want to have Fun. An extremely interesting paper concerning some of the crazies we bump into around here sometimes. This actually came out almost a month ago, but may apply here.
